Discovery of an X–ray Pulsar in the Low–mass X-ray Binary 2a 1822–371
We report the discovery of 0.59 s X–ray pulsations from the low–mass X–ray binary, 5.57 hr dipping and eclipsing ADC source 2A 1822–371. Pulse arrival time analysis indicates a circular orbit with e <0.03 (95% confidence) and an asini for the neutron star of 1.006(5) lightseconds, implying a mass function of (2.03± 0.03)× 10M⊙. The barycentric pulse period was 0.59325(2) s in 1996.270 and 0.593...
متن کاملBroad - band BeppoSAX observation of the low - mass X - ray binary X 1822 - 371
Results of a 1997 September 9–10 BeppoSAX observation of the 5.57 hr low-mass X-ray binary (LMXRB) X 1822371 are presented. The 0.3–40 keV spectrum is unusually complex and cannot be fit by any of the standard models applied to other LMXRB. At least two components are required. One component has a shape consistent with that expected from the Comptonization of an input soft (Wien) spectrum while...
متن کاملThe mass of the neutron star in the low – mass X – ray binary 2 A 1822 – 371 ∗
Using phase resolved spectroscopic observations obtained with the Ultraviolet and Visual Echelle Spectrograph on ESO’s Kueyen Very Large Telescope supplemented by spectroscopic observations obtained with the Boller and Chivens Spectrograph on the Walter Baade Magellan telescope, we found sinusoidal radial–velocity variations with a semi–amplitude 327±17 km/s. From previous observations and from...
متن کاملOptical Studies of the X-ray Transient Xte J2123–058 – Ii. Phase Resolved Spectroscopy
We present time-resolved spectroscopy of the soft X-ray transient XTEJ2123–058 in outburst. A useful spectral coverage of 3700–6700Å was achieved spanning two orbits of the binary, with single epoch coverage extending to ∼ 9000 Å. The optical spectrum approximates a steep blue power-law, consistent with emission on the Rayleigh-Jeans tail of a hot black body spectrum. The strongest spectral lin...
